Dumb-Blondes Stereotype

I'm a natural blonde and always took the dumb-blondes stereotype personally. According to the well-known stereotype, typical blonde is good-looking and popular, while obviously bulgingly lacks sophisticated manners and intelligence. The stereotype gave birth to, bred and fed millions of blonde jokes – find a separate article dedicated to them at our website.
In the beginning of the twentieth century appeared a quite negative opinion on women with dyed blond hair (often accompanied by heavy make-up) as being the so-called 'gold-diggers' who hoped only for their looks to reach both professional and personal success. This category suggested some actresses, singers, dancers as well as prostitutes.
A famous film called 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' appeared in 1953, starring Marilyn Monroe. It was a story of two show-girls – dumbish blonde and a sassy brunette which emphasized the excitingly fun character of blond women. Men did had great fun starting affairs with blondes from entertainment business, however, this issue being highly undesirable in high-class circles, men scarcely established serious connection with their blonde fun girl-friends. That led to appearance of a sub-stereotype concerning fair-haired ladies, it manifested itself in the phrase: 'Gentlemen may prefer blondes, but they marry brunettes'.
